  • Getting in touch with Mrs. Biedscheid
  I prefer email—sbiedsch@psdschools.org
  By phone – 488-5354 or 207-1445 (home)

I do not answer my phone during class hours. If during class hours, please leave a message with the office and not on my classroom phone.

  • Before school routine
For the students’ safety, no students should arrive before 8:50. All students will enter the playground through the south gate. Please, never let your child walk without adult supervision in the school’s parking lot!

All students may play on the playground until the first bell rings at 9:00. They will enter the classroom through our outside door. Class begins at 9:05! If your child arrives to school after this time, they will need to enter the building through the main doors and check in at the office. The office staff will give your child a pass to enter the classroom.

  • Dressing for the Weather
With our ever-changing Colorado weather, please remember to send your child prepared for the day. In the fall and spring, it is always a good idea to have some type of jacket with them. Please see Bacon Elementary Parent Handbook about the policy regarding recess and weather conditions.

  • Being Prepared for School
Developing good school habits begin in kindergarten! Encourage your child to have a good breakfast before coming to school. Make sure they are well rested for the day’s activities. Also, they should always bring a backpack daily along with their STAR binder.  Also, a change of clothing in the backpack is very helpful, just in case the need arises.

  • Missing School
If your child will be absent, please call the school attendance number (488-5310) to inform the office.

  • School Lunches
Your child can either purchase a hot lunch at school for $2.45 or bring a sack lunch from home. Extra milk may be purchased for $.45.  Please keep the monthly school lunch calendar available to discuss the different choices your child will have for lunch.

Paying for Meals
Students may pay for meals several ways. Children may bring money to school and pay during mealtime.  Money may be put on their student account, which will be debited when your child gets their meal. Checks for your child’s account should be made out to the school and may be turned into the cashier.  Parents may also pay for meals online.  Please see the link below.  There is no charge to register online.  Free features of this web site include viewing your student's daily account activity and low balance email alerts.  A convenience fee is added to each online credit card payment for meals.  This fee is used to cover the credit card company fees charged per payment.

When sending lunch money with kindergarten students, please place it in an envelope with your child’s name on the front. If they are also paying for an older sibling, include their name and their homeroom teacher’s name and grade on the front. All questions regarding lunch charges should be directed to the kitchen manager. It is a parent’s responsibility to be aware if their child will be in need of money for lunch.

  • Specials
Your child will attend one special per day on a rotating schedule.  Bacon specials classes are Art, Music, PE, Technology and Library.

  • Library Books
Your child will have library book check out every Thursday. He/She may keep the book until the next library day. All books need to be returned before a new one is checked out. All questions about lost or damaged books should be directed to Mrs. Sterkel in the Media center.

  • Physical Education (P.E.)
All children should wear tennis shoes for PE. For their safety, please no sandals. If girls are wearing dresses, it is always a good idea to wear a pair of shorts or tights underneath.

  • Snack
If you feel that your child would benefit from having an afternoon snack, you may send one in with them. This is an option for all students! Snack needs to be an item that is easy for the students to serve themselves and does not need to be refrigerated. Students will eat snack during afternoon recess!  The STAR binder has a list of healthy snack choices.

Your child is also welcomed to have a water bottle at school. Please label it with their name and encourage your student to bring it home daily to be cleaned.
  • Birthday Celebrations
Children can celebrate their birthdays at school with a simple celebration that includes a snack for the class. This is an option for families, not a requirement. All birthday treats need to be store bought items that are easy to serve. Parents are welcomed to be there for the celebrations. Birthday celebrations will take place just before recess at 3:05. If your child has a summer birthday, celebrations can take place the last month of school.
  • Dismissal Routine
Full Day Students
All of the kindergarten students are dismissed at 3:43.
Base Camp Students will walk through the main hall to the flex room (lunch room).
Bus riders and daycare van students will exit the building through the outside doors by the flex room. In case of bad weather, all students will wait at these doors until their bus number or daycare van has been called to go outside.

Walkers and students getting picked-up will be dismissed directly from their classroom. First of all, if you plan on driving to Bacon, please remember to park along Zephyr Road which borders the south side of Bacon’s playground. It is helpful if kindergarten parents can park
their cars in appropriate parking spaces.

All students that will walk home or get picked up will remain in their classroom! I will dismiss them when a parent or designated person is present outside our south classroom door.

Make sure to tell older siblings to meet their brother or sister in the bus lines or outside the kindergarten room.
Please remember to be on time to pick up your student! (3:28) It can be very upsetting to a 5 or 6 year old student if they are watching other children getting picked up but you’re late! If an emergency has occurred and you are running late, please call the office and they will inform us. Also, by 3:50, we will take any remaining students to the office. You will be required to come inside the building to pick up your student.

It is also required by the district that all students exit school grounds. We encourage students and their families to go directly home after school and not to stay and play on the playground. SORRY!

If your child has a change with how they are leaving school for the day, please send a note in writing that morning or call the office as soon as you are aware of the change. Since we are at recess at the end of the day, it is very difficult for the office to inform us of changes after 3:15!
